Single or double?
The single underline uses the combining low line U+0332 and the double uses U+0333. In most fonts they join into a continuous rule under letters with no descenders; letters like g, p and y cut through it.

Why does the underline cross through g and y?
The combining underline sits at a fixed position and does not skip descenders the way a word processor does.
Can I underline and bold at once?
Paste the bold text into the box first, then copy the Underline version. Combining marks work on styled letters too.
